  1. Honestly, it needs more asymmetry would be my first suggestion. If it were possible to remove the right hand 25% of the painting, I would. The other things that would add interest is elements that draw the eye into the painting and make it more three dimensional/deep, and continue elements outside of the edge of the painting. So perhaps add a line of trees coming in from the right (closer to the viewer) and receding to the left (away from the existing tree). And show that the existing tree’s branches don’t stop at the edge of the canvas.
    Or, if you’d like to add some humor – how about a ladder leaning against the right hand side of the tree… that would also address the asymmetry and depth issues.
