Retreat to normality

Let’s retreat from this madness

the belief that everything’s fun

the falseness of enjoying

of what Christmas has become

For some it is sadness

for some it is pain

for some it is expectations

that they never gain

For me it’s now over

the start of a new year

away from the madness

and false Christmas cheer

Some live in the fantasy

its easier that way

Christmas is not fun for everyone

and its okay to say.

We have been very lucky, we have had a lovely peaceful Christmas. I wrote this for all the people who have maybe found it difficult seeing people that they would have preferred not to!  I remember those days and the falseness and stress which goes with it. In an ideal world Christmas would be like it is portrayed in movies. 😉 in reality it rarely is. 🙄

Come Boxing Day to me it’s all over. I take down most of the decorations and I like to retreat back to normality (it must be the Aquarian in me) 😉 bah humbug! 😉

  1. luckily you wrote this text under your poem because reading your poem I thought that something has happened 😱
and you’re right, sometimes Christmas is quite forced

    1. I thought when I was writing it people would think the worst 😉 we had a lovely time but after reading some posts it brought back memories from the past. Have you had a good time. I bet it has been hard work for you 🙂

  2. We, too, had a lovely, peaceful Christmas, Elaine. Since our decorations didn’t go up till Christmas Eve, they’ll be around a little longer. 😉

  3. This is so true. All the preconceived notions about holiday cheer is not totally true, not for everyone. For some it is a stressful burden , for others outright pain. But I don’t think the madness is going away anytime soon.
